10.5 hours and that was it

The first three hours of trhe run walk was slowish - might have been the sinisitus of the week before. Willie Engelbrecht was a very good pace maker and finished the leg to Worcester way ahead of me. After 30 km I asked him to go ahead and run his pace.

Well into the night  I was supported by my son Johan and his friend Sid. They tried to revive my body, but after about 10 and a half hours, I called it a day. The body seemed to be unwilling to take the punch.
My two man support team did a great job on his shift. They took over from Michael who was on the first watch.

Thank you for your support and for everybody that did (or was willing to) support.

It was a big disappointment... but the fight for poverty eradication goes on!

Run and Walk with Hansie Louw

On 29 and 30 October 2010 Hansie Louw will run and walk over 100 km to invite everybody to take a stand for poverty eradication. The route starts from Robertson, Western Cape, South Africa at 14:00 Central African Time. It goes through the towns of Worcester, Wellington, Paarl, Bloekombos (poor community), Kraaifontein, Durbanville and ends at Kenridge Dutch Reformed church or 26 hours - whichever comes first.

Hansie has done two previous runs - June 16 of 2008 and June 16 2009 and covered 100 km each time. When he was asked, "why don't you just cover 100 kilometers and run a good 100?", he replied, "the last 63 odd kilometers of the run/walk can only be completed with the help of others - the support team and some-one physically walking with you, pushing and pulling if required. To eradicate poverty we need to do the same - the individual wanting to break free can start on the journey, but he needs help and support to break free from poverty." Hansie added: "I expect that a number of South African politicians with a heart for poor people will participate in the run in one or other way".

The focus is on poverty eradication and that we all should take a stand for this. If you can run/walk with us - that will be great - even if it is only for 1 kilometer. The crucial time will be from 7 am (after sunrise) to the completion of the race. You could follow the progress by phoning 082 773 4022 or tracing Hansie on googlemaps.

Donations and sponsorships will go to  Viola Moolman soup kitchen efforts (Eerstervier, Western Cape), Herbalife Family Foundation Casa Herbalife Projects (Africa), Pastor Xola Skosana (Way of Life Church - Khayelitsha for the Institute of building and equipping pastors), Pastor Ian Murray (Ministry Cape Town).
100% of donations or sponsorships will go to these projects - all of them rebuilding lives of people impacted by poverty in one or other respect.
